This Is How I Draw Cats Now

This Is How I Draw Cats Now is a series of drawings, and books as well as the handle of the Instagram account for my drawings. I began the series in April of 2022, as a creative exercise in reimagining the drawing of cats as a springboard concept. An artist cat character was born. Each issue would potentially document the shifts in tools, approach, and sensibility.

This Is How I Draw Cats Now is a series of zines by celebrated zinester Brian Brooks.
Mr. Brooks released the first issue of This Is How I Draw Cats Now in June 2024, featuring drawings from 2022. Yes, it’s that convoluted. The drawings were originally created with ballpoint pen on index cards, date-stamped, and scanned into the computer, where they were compiled into this book.
The title is quite suggestive of its content.
Quarter-page zines measure 2.75″ x 4.25″ and consist of 32 pages (including the cover). They are printed and assembled by hand in Oakland, California. Each zine is date-stamped with the date of printing and signed by the artist.
Dive into 32 pages of whimsical ballpoint pen drawings, using cats as springboards, and featuring cameos by Emily The Strange!
